Yamaha has been in the 600cc sportbike game since the introduction of the XJ600 in 1984. In 1998, however, the company would redefine the 600cc supersport class with the introduction of the all new YZF-R6. Designed as a 600cc version of the freshly released R1 and offered as a higher performance alternative to the YZF600R, the R6 featured an alloy frame and swingarm and was powered by an inline four that was the first production 600cc engine to reach the equivalent of 200 horsepower per liter.
For 2017, Yamaha gave the R6 a comprehensive update, bringing styling inspired by the YZF-R1 while reducing aerodynamic drag by eight percent. The new generation also received an aluminum fuel tank, full LED lighting, 43mm KYB forks, a revised KYB rear shock, larger 320mm front brake discs, and ADVICS four piston calipers.
Electronic rider aids were also brought into the package, including traction control with six levels of intervention, ABS, and ride by wire throttle control. The result was a middleweight supersport that carried over the R6’s high revving character while adding a more sophisticated chassis and electronics package.
The 599cc, 16-valve inline four at its heart is housed in an aluminum Deltabox frame and paired with fully adjustable KYB suspension. With its R1 inspired bodywork, aluminum fuel tank, sophisticated electronics, and R1 derived braking hardware, the final road-legal generation R6 remained a focused expression of Yamaha’s long running supersport formula.

In preparation for the listing, the seller had us perform a safety inspection, we drained the old fuel from the tank before starting the bike, drained and replaced the coolant, engine oil and filter, fitted a new Yuasa battery, flushed and filled the front and read hydraulic fluid, and serviced the chain.
