Yamaha introduced the YZF-R6 in 1999 as the middleweight counterpart to its groundbreaking R1, but the smaller machine quickly established a legendary reputation of its own. It became the world’s first production 600cc four stroke sportbike to produce more than 100 horsepower in stock trim, immediately setting a new benchmark for the supersport class. Combining a screaming inline four engine with razor sharp handling, the R6 went on to become one of the most successful production race platforms of the modern era.
Rather than reinventing the formula, Yamaha spent the next two decades continually refining it. Fuel injection arrived in 2003, followed by ride by wire throttle, a slipper clutch, and an improved Deltabox chassis. Later generations adopted styling and aerodynamic developments inspired by the flagship R1, ensuring the R6 remained at the front of the supersport field both on the street and at racetracks around the world. Although Yamaha eventually discontinued the street legal version, the R6’s competitive career continued thanks to dedicated racing models and its enduring popularity among professional teams.
This particular machine was campaigned by the Ten Kate Yamaha WorldSSP team. it is the very motorcycle ridden by Dominique Aegerter during his dominant 2021 FIM Supersport World Championship campaign. In his rookie WorldSSP season Aegerter proved nearly untouchable, clinching the championship with two races remaining after an extraordinary season that included ten victories, fourteen podium finishes, the Tissot Superpole Award, and the Pirelli Best Lap Award.
Aegerter secured the title at San Juan, Argentina, becoming Yamaha’s ninth World Supersport Champion and delivering Ten Kate Racing its tenth WorldSSP crown. After crossing the finish line, the emotional Swiss rider reflected on a lifetime spent chasing the dream of becoming a world champion, saying, “I have spent 25 years of my life working towards this day… Today I have made it.”
Factory supported World Championship race bikes rarely become available to the public, particularly with documented championship winning provenance. As the motorcycle that carried Dominique Aegerter to the 2021 FIM World Supersport Championship, this R6 represents a unique opportunity to own a genuine piece of contemporary racing history. Per the seller: “This championship winning bike is signed by Aegerter on several parts.”
This example is VIN: JARJ271000012169. Engine # J529E-009952. The seller acquired it from the previous owner who bought it from Ten Kate Racing.
During their ownership, the seller has not ridden the bike. There is no odometer and the bike is True Mileage Unknown.
