Electric bikes are a contentious topic in the motorcycling world, but Zero is one manufacturer that’s managed to prove the concept. Since its founding in 2006, the California-based brand has released a number of different models — some more successful than others — leading the charge in the effort to convert even the most diehard of petrol heads.
When Zero debuted the SR/F in 2020, it marked the first significant release from the brand in years. Along with a refreshed design language, the bike also introduced a new motor, controller unit, and operating system. Even the display was swapped out to keep things current.
Consequently, the SR/F made for a pretty dramatic departure from past Zero models — especially with regards to performance. When combined with the brand’s ZF14.4 lithium-ion battery, the air-cooled ZF75-10 motor was good for a claimed 110hp and 140lb-ft of torque. At the time, this made it the biggest and most powerful motor Zero had sold in a production bike.
In order to accommodate the extra go, the SR/F came standard with Showa suspension, Pirelli tires, and J.Juan four-piston brakes. Per Motorcycle News, such a feature set made the bike “a huge leap forwards in speed, sophistication and recharge time over the firm’s previous generation of bikes. The result is easily the best road-going electric bike yet, offering truly comparable power, weight, handling and excitement to a regular roadster.”
The Premium model of the bike came with an upgraded 6kW rapid charging system, versus 3kW on the base version. This feature offered a big improvement on charging time when using Level 2 charging systems (220V), juicing up the bike from 0-95% in about one to one and a half hours, whereas the base model can take up to four hours.
This example is VIN: 538ZFAZ74LCK11904. The seller purchased the bike March 2021 from a private party out of California and states, “I owned a 2012 Zero dirtbike and I was very curious about how the electric power would translate on a street bike. I waited until the price came down on a preowned bike to a place where I would be able to sell it without losing much if I didn’t like it. Needless to say, I really enjoyed this bike for the last four years. The instant torque, clutchless ride, and silent power is truly addictive. Obviously, like all electric bikes, the range is a limiting factor but for a short commute, this is an incredible experience and, at the current prices, something that everyone should try.”
During his ownership, the seller has covered approximately 850 miles. The odometer shows 10,978 miles.
Maintenance:
Per the seller, “I did a full service and open recalls in 2021.”
