Description
Additional photos of this Harley-Davidson Sporster 1250 S Custom are available here for your perusal.
The Sportster originally debuted in 1957, making it the longest-running model in Harley-Davidson’s lineup. Throughout that time, the bike has been slow to change — before 1980, it was kickstart only, and, up until 1991, all models featured a four-speed transmission. In fact, it wasn’t until 2007 that Harley began making fuel injection a standard item on the Sporty.
With the introduction of the Sportster S, however, the Bar and Shield finally carried the bike into the 21st Century. Whereas previous iterations have traded on-road performance for a retro look and a thumping riding feel, the latest to come from Milwaukee makes for a markedly more advanced machine.
As with the Pan America, the Sportster’s Revolution Max motor acts as a stressed member of the chassis. Along with driving some 120 horses to the rear wheel, this also means that it helps to dramatically reduce the weight and overall on-road riding feel.
Elsewhere, Harley decided that it was high-time the bike employ some more modern technology — including water-cooling. At the front, you’ll find fully-adjustable Showa inverted forks; at the rear, there’s a piggyback monoshock. Add to that a set of Brembo brakes, a three-mode ride controller, and a Bluetooth-enabled, GPS-equipped dash, and you’re left with a bike that finally puts the ‘Sport’ in Sportster once again.
