The bones of the KLX 300 date back to 2006 with Kawasaki’s KLX 250S, a bike Adventure Motorcycle called, “a breeze to ride” in their backtrack review. The 300 utilized the 250’s chasis but got an all new 292cc mill for 2021.
The liquid-cooled single claimed a modest 26 ponies and 17.7lb-ft of peak torque, an increase of 2hp and 2.7lb-ft from its predecessor. While that boost would seem indistinct on larger bikes, on the 302-pound KLX it makes a noticeable difference — especially since the jump in torque is felt at lower speeds.
Team Green outfitted the dual-sport 21″ and 18″ wheels, 10.8″ of ground clearance, and a notable suspension setup comprising a set of 43mm USD forks — with adjustable compression damping — and a gas-charged Uni-Trak shock with adjustable spring preload, compression damping, and rebound damping.
Colored in Fragment Camo livery, this example is VIN: ML5LXBD14MDA04281. We are selling the bike on behalf of our dear friend, the late motorcycle journalist and enthusiast Evans Brasfield. He initially purchased the bike from MO’s longterm test fleet, after which he transformed the little dual sport into a lightweight adventure bike here. He further equipped the bike in Part II of the series here before taking it on the 2022 LA-Barstow to Vegas.
The odometer shows 3,736 miles.
