When Triumph revived the Scrambler name back in 2006, the model was more of a road bike in disguise than a true off-road-worthy option. In fact, the Hinckley-based manufacturer even went so far as to introduce the “Street Scrambler” for those who wanted to look the part without venturing beyond anything other than groomed dirt roads.
For this reason, some motorcycle enthusiasts consider the Triumph Scrambler a scrambler only in name. This all changed when Triumph introduced the Scrambler 1200 XE and XC in 2019. Both true performance-oriented versions of its retro-styled twin, each bike featured a 1200cc engine making 89hp and 81ft-lbs of torque – a marked increase over their Bonneville and Street Scrambler siblings.
That same year, a special Steve McQueen Edition was also released. Limited to 1,000 examples, the bike was flashier version of the XC, upgraded with a premium brown seat, laser-etched pressed aluminium radiator guard, engine guards, and higher front mud guard as standard. The whole package was adorned in Competition Green with gold accents, sported a McQueen logo on the tank and McQueen branding on the handlebar.
