In 2015, Yamaha decided to challenge the small bike establishment with their release of the R3, and the end result was impressive. Sport Rider opened up their review by simply saying it was “worth the wait.” Thanks to a 321cc motor it was faster than the competition from Honda and Kawasaki and it quickly became Yamaha’s best selling motorcycle in the US. It also became a popular platform for ~300 cc racing.
Basic specs for the R3 were 41 horsepower, 22lb-ft of torque, and a curb weight of just 373 pounds. Stopping power for the little twin came from a 298mm disc up front and a 220mm disc at the rear, paired with two-pot and single-pot calipers, respectively. In order to provide confident handling through turns, Yamaha fitted the R3 with a set of 41mm KYB forks along with an adjustable KYB shock.
The model was updated in 2019 with new bodywork, significantly improved suspension, and upgraded tires to make it a very impressive baby sportbike.
Manufactured June 2020, this example is VIN: MH3RH18YXMK004987. The seller purchased the bike through Triumph San Diego Summer 2023. He states it was turned into a race bike October 2021 before his ownership and is selling to clear space.
The odometer shows 1,183 miles. The seller purchased the bike with the intention of using it on the track. However, his plans have since changed and he never had the opportunity to race it.

Currently located at our facility in Santa Monica, California, (please make an appointment for an inspection), this Yamaha is offered on a clean California title with Planned Nonoperation registration (PNO). Per the California DMV website, it will cost $207 to bring registration current through October 2024.
