Ever since Valerio Bianchi, Giuseppe Morri, and Massimo Tamburini founded Bimota back in 1973, the Rimini-based firm has made sophisticated frame designs its bread and butter. That’s because, for all of the performance that Japanese engines can offer, the Italians believe that a proper chassis is the key to unlocking a bike’s true potential.
As the latest model from Bimota, the KB4 epitomizes such a sentiment. Beneath its curvaceous fairings and bright red trellis frame, the bike hides a 1,043cc inline-four — good for 142hp and 82lb-ft of torque — pulled from a Kawasaki Ninja 1000 SX. Though it might seem like an odd choice for a piece of Italian exotica, the KB4 is not an out-and-out “sportbike” per se; Bimota technically bills it as a sports tourer.
Even still, the bike is engineered to be ridden fast. The steering geometry is sharp and responsive, with the rake set at 24.0° and the trail at four inches. The KB4 also tips the scales a svelte 428lbs, boasts a spritely 53.6:46.4 weight distribution, and comes in shorter than a ZX-6R thanks to its 54.7-inch wheelbase (Bimota actually relocated the radiator to the rear in order to move the front wheel backwards). As if that wasn’t enough, Bimota packed the bike full of performance-focused technology, including Öhlins NIX 30/TTX 36 suspension, forged O.Z. wheels, loads of billet aluminum parts, and some lightweight carbon bodywork.
Motorycle.com put it best in their review: “it’s been designed to go places and do things that nothing else to have emanated from the Rimini manufacturer ever did before… This is a very happy marriage of the Kawasaki Z1000SX motor and the Bimota composite frame, whose bodywork combines recalling the classic shapes of the iconic Bimota models of the ’70s and ’80s, with the function and utility of a modern motorcycle.”
This example is VIN: 4B9CH1254PR106001. The seller notes that “this is the first and possibly only year of this bike in North America. I don’t think Bimota will import the KB4 for 2024 but I’m not 100%.” This was special ordered to go into a private collection howeer he’s decided to have a custom one built and he’s letting this go to make room for it.
The odometer shows zero kilometers/miles.
