Description
Click here for an VINData Motorcycle History Report on this 2022 Kawasaki Z900.
Team Green launched the Z900 in 2017. The move was a combination of offering a naked 900 to compete in the growing market segment, targeting bikes like Yamaha’s MT-09 and XSR900, and also to simply its lineup by simultaneously nixing the Z800 and Z1000.
Across the Z family, Kawi has used the Japanese word “Sugomi” to describe the design language. The term roughly translates to the aura or energy felt by someone when they see something great. In their words, something possessing Sugomi “inspires awe, leaves an indelible impression, is imposing in stature or ability, and commands respect.” Kawasaki found this sweet spot with the Z900 looks. The aggressive styling was just the right amount, meaner than the Z125 and Z600 but dialed back from the excessive, overly hostile Z800 and Z1000.
Shaving off 46lbs from the Z800, thanks to the new high tensile steel trellis frame, the Z900’s target audience is 30 to 40 year olds who do more urban and freeway commuting than track days. The power plant housed by this frame was a 948cc inline four cylinder, essentially a smaller bore derivation from the Z1000 unit, producing 126 horsepower at 9,500 rpm and 73 pound feet of torque at 7,700 rpm.
Stopping power was handled by 300mm petal-style rotors with dual-piston calipers, while the rear wheel is stopped by a 250mm petal-style rotor with a single dual-piston caliper; ABS is optional. The suspension has been taken care of by KYB, who supplies 41mm inverted front forks and a horizontal back-link shock, both adjustable for rebound and preload.
Gen 2 appeared in 2020 and improvements were predominately technological upgrades such as a 4.3 inch full-color TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity, adjustable traction control, four selectable ride modes, and LED headlight.
This example is VIN: JKAZR2F15NA038215. The seller purchased the bike in 2024 from Thousand Oaks Motorsports in Thousand Oaks, California, and states, “I’ve had hundreds of bikes and this one is probably top 10. Great power, handles well, very comfortable. Great commuter bike.” He is selling to thin the herd.
During his ownership, the seller has covered approximately 2,000 miles. The odometer shows 5,708 miles.
