In 2016, Triumph completely revamped the Thruxton – the evolved looks still captured retro magic, but there was a tremendous bump in performance – especially when it came to the up-spec R version. MCN named it the Best Retro of 2016, calling it “an intoxicating mixture of retro style-meets 21st century performance and technology.”
They admired the impressive feature set which included Brembo monoblocs with ABS, traction control, Öhlins shocks, some Showa Big Piston forks, electronic riding modes, and Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa tires. MCN’s gushing continued thanks to the “High Torque” 1,200cc parallel twin engine that produced 96 horsepower and 83ft-lbs of torque. “It was more than just a styling job. It was a fine-handling, fast, easy to ride and above all fun motorcycle in its own right and even had a devilish appetite for skids and wheelies when you turned the electronics off.”
Then, come 2020, Triumph added a new model to the lineup in the form of the Thruxton RS. Like the R, the bike boasted beefy Showa forks and Öhlins shocks, though it also received some updates to the engine which resulted in an increased 103hp output. Thanks to some clever weight-saving measures, it was lighter too, tipping the scales at 434lbs.
This example is VIN: SMTD56HR9PTBG6924, engine HAX9199. Iconic Motorbikes is helping auction the bike on behalf of the owner’s estate.
The odometer shows 1,182 miles.
