Like many American riders, the Kentucky Kid got his start racing minibikes before moving into the world of dirt track. When he finally became AMA eligible at 16, he immediately started making a name for himself, gradually rising through satellite teams before taking the 1999 600 Supersport Championship and landing himself a spot on Honda’s Superbike squad for the 2000 season.

After becoming the youngest-ever rider to take the AMA title in 2002, Nicky Hayden then earned himself a seat with Repsol Honda in the MotoGP class. In spite of a slow start during his first two seasons, he quickly turned things around and took third overall in 2005. That next year, Hayden made history, securing his first-ever MotoGP world title and breaking Valentino Rossi’s five-year consecutive streak in the process.

Following two more seasons with Honda, Nicky Hayden made the switch to Ducati where he would stay until until 2013. He subsequently moved to the Honda Aspar team in 2014 where he raced for two seasons and closed out his MotoGP career. Come 2016, he moved to the Superbike World Championship with Ten Kate Racing. He would stay with the team for another season before being tragically killed while cycling in Italy.

Many Honda fans have a soft spot for Hayden’s first MotoGP Championship season. This Arai Corsair was specially painted to be a replica of the 2006 campaign by none other than Troy Lee Designs. Troy Lee Designs has made specialty helmet liveries for many different models over the years including a recent Iconic auction of Steve McQueen helmets.

The sale includes the original Arai bag, documentation from Troy Lee Designs about the custom paint work (not pictured), pin lock, cleaning solution and warranty boooklet. The seller states “the helmet has never been worn and was only ever a display piece.”
