Yamaha originally introduced the R6 back in 1999 on the heels of its wildly successful R1. The 600 was intended as an accompaniment to its larger liter bike sibling, but it quickly showed itself to be a performer. In fact, the R6 was the world’s first 600cc four-stroke street bike producing over 100hp in stock trim.

And here’s the thing: since that time, Yamaha has only continued to tweak its original formula. 2003 brought the model fuel injection, while later updates in 2006 and 2008 gave it ride-by-wire throttle, a slipper clutch, and an improved Deltabox frame. Of course, over the years, Yamaha also improved the aesthetics and the aerodynamics with styling cues borrowed from the R1.

Eventually, Yamaha discontinued the street-going version of the bike in favor of a pair of select, track-exclusive offerings: the R6 RACE and R6 GYTR (Genuine Yamaha Technology Racing). Though the former never made its way stateside, Richard Stanboli and Attack Performance answered with an up-spec R6 of their own known as the “Next Gen Attack-Kit R6.” Just 13 bikes were slated for completion, each one combining top-shelf parts, proven tuning methods, and plenty of race-winning experience.

MotoAmerica fans will know this particular example (now wearing different bodywork) from the 2022 Daytona 200. With Cameron Petersen at the helm, it crossed the finish line in second — just a mere 0.007 seconds behind winner Brandon Paasch:

Manufactured in December of 2020, this example is VIN: JYARJ28YXLA003122. The seller acquired the bike directly from Attack Performance.
