Every country participating in the International Six Days is distinguished by the colors adorned on their helmets. In 1964, the United States organized its first official ISDE team, at which time Bell was the official supplier. The helmets were blue with three white stripes, a design that has since become known as the “Skunk Stripe”. Though the paint scheme has evolved and the helmet supplier has changed, the blue and white lives on even today.

Amongst American riders, Drew Smith ranks third in IDSE appearances — he participated in an impressive 20 races from 1975 to 1999. The helmet you see before you is from the the event’s 73rd running, hosted by Australia in 1998.
The seller acquired this helmet in the early 2000s from a charity auction to benefit the Blue Ribbon Coalition.
