John Kocinski had an incredible career racing motorcycles – he started strong by riding for Yamaha at the age of 17 and winning three straight AMA 250cc GP championships in a row between 1987 and 1989. Kocinski represented America very well on the international stage, winning the 250cc World GP Championship for Team Roberts with six pole positions and seven wins – on tracks he was competing on for the first time! He would go on to race in the 500cc World GP Championship as Wayne Rainey’s teammate, placing 4th overall in 1991 and 3rd overall in 1992.
In 1993, John started the season in the 250cc GP Championship with Suzuki – earning them their first-ever podium in that class.
The seller notes that John wore this suit in different tests during the 1993 season – early in the season he had a contract was Shoei, so he was wearing a Shoei helmet and there was a Shoei patch on the suit:
The John Kocinski fan page on Facebook shows a later photo from either Eastern Creek or Jerez with the Shoei and Marlboro logos hidden – that’s why the Shoei patch was covered with a Bell sticker.
Later that season, Kocinski had an incident at Assen which led to him being fired by Suzuki, something that came up in the news cycle again very recently as it had several parallels to Maverick Vinales at Assen this year.
He retired from full-time racing in 2002, and in 2015 his incredible career was commemorated with his inclusion into the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame.
Currently located in Madrid, Spain, this suit is offered on a Bill of Sale only. The seller estimates that shipping to the US will be approximately $100. Have any Kocinski stories or questions about this listing? Let us know in the comments!
