Additional photos of Makoto Tamada’s helmet are available here for your perusal.
One of very few riders to win in World Superbike and MotoGP, Makoto Tamada is a Japanese motorcycle racer who competed in MotoGP between 2003 and 2007 for Honda and Yamaha.
He won two MotoGP races during his career, both of which in the 2004 season when he finished 6th overall on a Camel Honda. His first win was in the 7th round at the Rio de Janeiro motorcycle Grand Prix in July, and it was the first win in MotoGP for a bike equipped with Bridgestone tires.
After his win in Brazil, Makoto gifted this helmet and his suit from that race to his team manager, Gianluca Montiron. As noted in this CorseDiMoto story (in Italian), Gianluca sold both in 2019 to raise money for charity. Today, we are offering the very Suomy helmet that Tamada won the 2004 Rio de Janeiro GP in. We do not know the whereabouts of the matching suit.
The helmet livery was created by Bargy Design of Milan, Italy.
Currently located in Barcelona, Spain, this helmet is offered on a Bill of Sale only. The seller estimates that shipping to the continental US would be roughly $100. Have any Tamada stories or questions about this listing? Let us know in the “Comments” tab!
