Based out of North Hollywood, California, Moto Carrera (no longer in business) was a specialty shop for 2-stroke sportbikes. They were probably best known for the development of some aftermarket parts (especially for Yamaha RDs) like their rearsets and Millenium GP exhausts, but their most significant accomplishment was the creation of the “Del Mar”, a limited production run of RD350-based street trackers. 11 were built over several years.

Per the Moto Carrera About Us page, the prototype bike was named after the Del Mar Concours d’Elegance. They started the build 11 days before the show, won an award, and then created a few to sell to the public. In September of 2004, Cycle World did a story about this model and Moto Carrera claims “this was the first time a custom RD had ever been featured in the 50 year history of the magazine.” Here’s a scan of the article, which notes that this weighs just 275 pounds and produces up to 65 horsepower. Original cost was about $12,000:

This example is VIN: R5117548. The seller purchased it directly from Moto Carrera fifteen years ago. The seller has put 50 miles on this bike since ownership. There is no odometer, true mileage is unknown but is estimated to be roughly 100 since the build was completed.

XR750-style tank and tail section.

Shipping Information

Continental US:
Haul Bikes will ship anything sold through Iconic for a starting rate of $750 in the Continental US (prices may increase in rural markets), and Iconic will handle the paperwork on your behalf. You do not need to crate your bike or drain the gas/disconnect the battery if you go with Haul Bikes. We are glad to work with the shipper of your choice as well, but you will have to arrange it.

Please note:

  • spares/extras will have to be shipped separately via FedEx or similar.
  • the fee includes $15,000 of insurance with a $500 deductible. Additional insurance can be purchased at a cost of $50 per additional $5,000 of value.
