Barely seen outside of Italy, Motom focused on four-stroke small-displacement mopeds and motorcycles. The company was founded in ’47 and kept making bikes until ’71. Though it’s a fairly obscure name now, Motom was the third largest motorcycle manufacturer in Italy in the mid 1950s.
The post-war need for transportation caused a boom in scooter and motorcycle production throughout Europe. Many companies in Italy filled this need with peculiar looking scooter/motorcycle styled hybrids such as the Moto Guzzi Galletto, MV Agusta Pullman, Aermacchi Chimera and the Motom Delfino. The unique design extended to footrests, 15′ wheels, oversized mudguards, and an enclosed fan-cooled engine housed inside a single tubular beam frame. The ‘Dolphin’ started production with a 147cc single-cylinder before being subsequently upgraded to a 163cc capable of 8hp and a claimed 56mph.
Priced at 265,000 lire, Delfino sales suffered from less expensive competition such as the the 150,000 lire Vespa 125 and 166,000 lire Lambretta LD. Production ceased in 1957 after some 5,350 units had been produced.
There is no VIN. Engine: 6302128.
The odometer shows 2,459 kilometers (1,528 miles), however the seller cannot confirm accuracy.
