In the long, proud history of BMW, the R69S is one of the most iconic motorcycles ever built by the German manufacturer. In a 1962 review of the BMW R69S, Cycle World said, “Whatever the BMW’s merits in a contest of speed, it is still the smoothest, best finished, quietest and cleanest motorcycle it has ever been our pleasure to ride. To be honest, we think that anyone who would worry much over its performance-potential is a bit of a booby. The R69S is fast enough to handle any encounter, and it has attributes that are, in touring, infinitely more valuable than mere speed. All things considered, if we were planning a two-wheel style vacation/tour, the BMW would have to be our choice of mount.”

The BMW R69S, produced from 1960 to 1969, was BMW’s sportbike of its day. With 42 horsepower, it was by far the most powerful bike BMW made at the time. The 594cc four-stroke two-cylinder could reach a reported top speed of 109mph and it was renowned for its superbly smooth handling, reliability, build quality and finish as well as its classic clean looks. 11,317 units were produced throughout the 60s with hardly any updates as the original design was so successful.

This example is VIN: 660273; Engine: 660273.

The odometer shows 70,799 miles, however the seller cannot confirm accuracy.

Maintenance:
The seller states, “Not running. The bike has been a display piece for many years and in not in current running condition. Tank appears clean and no fuel in it that we can see around the baffles. Motor turns over, bad battery. Likely minor repairs are needed to make this bike run again.”

Modifications:
Per the seller, “It is unknown if there were any modifications that were performed by previous or current ownership.”

Inside of the tank:

It is riding on Metzeler tires.

There is no key or supporting documentation.

Cosmetic Blemishes: please see the album up top for all known cosmetic blemishes. Here is a selection:
