No Reserve – 1979 Maico MC 250

Description

MC stood for Moto Cross, and 250 told you what the displacement was. It first came to market in 1968 and was produced until 1979. There were a few different variants such as an enduro and motocross model throughout its production run. The Magnum II version, was popular among professional riders, including Danny Chandler in the AMA series.

Reviewers noted the stiff chrome-moly frame which house the two-stroke single with a bore and stroke of 67mm x 70mm and was paired with a four-speed gear box. It produced approximately 38 horsepower with some sources reporting up to 40 at 7,500 rpm.

This example is VIN: 3413080. Engine: MT3363538. The seller purchased the bike one year ago and states, “I wanted to have a collection of Maicos with all variations. This one is 2nd of the 3 I own. I bought this about a year ago from seller in San Diego. Previous owner spray painted the head and exhaust pipe. I did the oil change and rode it around the block few times to keep it running. Bike has original, unrestored aluminium gas tank in very decent shape. It’s hard to find one these days. Most bikes now have plastic tanks. Overall its in decent shape for a mostly unrestored running bike.”

There is no odometer, true mileage unknown.

Maintenance:
The seller reports performing an oil change and states, “It runs rides stops. Will need attention to restore in perfect condition. Known issues: Throttle cable not seated properly. Split in exhaust pipe welding.”

Modifications:
Per the seller, “Bike is mostly stock. With new plastics and aftermarket grips.”
