As the last air-cooled large-displacement twin-shock offering from Kawi, the GPz1100 represented the pinnacle of Z bike development. Inspired by the big K’s AMA superbike racers, it featured a 1,089cc engine that made 109hp at 8,500rpm — the most powerful model in its class at the time.
It also featured a number of incremental — but impactful — upgrades. Along with Bosch fuel injection, it also boasted higher compression pistons, a lightened crankshaft, and cams that were both higher in lift and also shorter in duration.
Kawasaki sold the GPz1100 without a fairing for one year (the B1 model) before fitting it with a cockpit fairing for 1982 (the B2 model.) For more on the big GPz, check out this story on MCN. They call it “the last king of a vanished clan – aircooled superbikes.”
Manufactured in February of 1981, this example is VIN: JKAKZBB13BA002980. The seller acquired it seven years ago as a project to send to Darren Begg of dB Customs to turn it into a restomod but has decided to go in a different direction.
The odometer shows 5,890 miles.
