Description

Click here for an VINData Motorcycle History Report on this 1982 Honda GL1100 Gold Wing.

Not many motorcycles bear a name as iconic as the Gold Wing. First released in 1974 with the original GL1000 model, the Gold Wing brought with it an innovative combination of power, comfort, and leading edge technology (for the time). With roughly 80 horsepower, 61 ft./lbs. of torque, and features such as an electric start, auxiliary power for accessories, and more luggage than a mid-sized SUV, the original GL1000 was a hit for the sport-touring market. By the turn of the decade, Honda was in full swing with the development of the Gold Wing line.

New for 1981, Honda released the Honda GL1100. With a horizontally opposed, liquid-cooled four-cylinder engine coming in at a sizeable 1085cc, the GL1100 offered a smooth yet exciting riding experience that was tweaked to reduce the vibrations in the previous model. With the bigger mill came an increase in power, with the newer GL1100 making approximately 81 horsepower and a heartier 67 ft./lbs. of torque.

Beyond the performance numbers came a new liquid-cooled engine, good for those long days in the saddle where temperature control and overheating could be a major issue. It was clear that Honda wasn’t content to sit on back on their laurels just yet, because the new for ’81 ‘Interstate’ model came with even more add-ons and features, such as a full fairing, one of the first ever introductions of EFI, and integrated hard luggage and trunk. With more accessories and add-ons than most modern day vehicles, it was no surprise that the Gold Wing was – and still is – known as the ‘Ultimate Tourer’.

This example is VIN: 1HFSC0217CA216020. The seller purchased the bike as an unfinished project from a private party in 2022 and states, “I wanted a muscle roadster, my wife wanted a recliner on wheels. This is where we landed. This bike has served us well on 100+ mile cruises through the Northern Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Maryland areas. When it is fully dressed out, it is a muscle bike in the front and a comfort touring machine in the back. Remove the top luggage case and run this thing as a bagger. Remove all the hard bags and use the included fender brace to strip this baby all the way down to a naked roadster. This bike shows well on the road and always gathers a crowd when taken to classic ride meet-ups or rider days. This bike has been a unique conversation piece that has many times gathered a crowd for pictures while parked for stopovers in Warrenton and Manassas. This bike has ultimately been a non-temperamental workhorse road machine that has shown great character while doing what it was meant to do, running the roads.”

During his ownership, the seller has covered approximately 4,000 miles. The odometer shows 58,079 miles.

Maintenance:
Per the seller, “2022 – Fork Seals, Oil & Filter Change (Documented). 2024 – Oil & Filter Change/Brakes and Rotors/Valve Adjustment/Valve Cover Gaskets (Documented). 2025 – New Iridium Plugs (Owner installed). This bike runs rock solid and has no notable mechanical issues.”

Modifications:
“New headlight mount and headlight / New front and back signal lights / National Cycles F-16 Touring Windshield / Tank Grips / L-E-D Accent Lighting / Wide Rear Foot Pegs / Custom “82” Number Badging Showing off the vintage / Vinyl Striping / Fiberglass Wrapped Headers / Flat Black Ceramic Coated Exhaust / Driver and Passenger phone mounts and charging ports / Passenger Cup Holder.”

Inside of the tank:

It is riding on Shinko Tour Master tires with date codes of 5120 and 0421.

The sale includes three ignition keys, two auxiliary keys, hardware, bike cover, and rear stand.

Cosmetic Blemishes: please see the album up top for all known cosmetic blemishes. Here is a selection:
“The bike is in great “rider” shape but has scratches, dings, road, and age wear throughout. This is no parking lot princes or garage queen. This bike is made for riding. It has been ridden and it shows throughout.”
