Click here for an CycleVIN Motorcycle History Report on this 1983 Kawasaki KZ1000R Eddie Lawson Replica. Additional photos are available here for your perusal.

After Eddie Lawson won the 1981 AMA Superbike Championship, Kawasaki created a limited edition model for 1982 based on the KZ1000. It was called the KZ1000R ELR (Eddie Lawson Replica), and it was an instant legend. The 1982 model had Eddie’s signature on the tank, but after Kawasaki/Kerker won the AMA Superbike Championship again that year, they updated the decal on the top of the tank to remove Lawson’s penmanship and add a second year of success.

The 1983 model (also known as the KZ1000R2) also differed in terms of the stripe layout on the tank, the style of the gauge cluster, the style of the sidecover emblem, a 10mm longer swingarm, cams from the GPz1100, and slight changes to the cylinder heads – we recommend you check out KZ1000R.com for all the information you could want about these fantastic motorcycles. They note that just 1,200 units of the ’83 model were built.

All North American-market ELRs came with a Kerker exhaust.

Manufactured in December of 1982, this example is VIN: JKAKZCR15DA002784, Engine #:KZT00JE042125.

The odometer shows 6,236 miles.

Maintenance:
In preparation for the listing, the seller had us clean and sync the carbs, clean the petcock, rearrange the tail section of the wiring harness, clean/adjust/lube the chain, and install a new clutch push rod seal, shift shaft seal, counter shaft seal, and transmission gasket seal. We also installed a new clutch push rod. Daniel and Steve did the work, they note that the brakes are at 80%/90% front/rear and that the battery, oil, lights, kill switch, and horn are OK.

Modifications:
This bike was previously restored – we note that the side covers were originally red (presumably off a GPz1100) and have been repainted.

The fairing and tank are original ELR.

Cosmetic Blemishes: please see the album up top for all known cosmetic blemishes. Here is a selection:

Inside of the tank:

It is riding on Michelin tires with date codes of 1518 and 3618.

The sale includes two keys.

Currently located at our facility in Santa Monica, California (please make an appointment for an inspection), this Kawasaki is offered on a clean Montana title. Have any ELR stories or questions about this listing? Let us know in the “Comments” tab!
