Offered in the US for just one year, the XJ900RK Seca is now a rare find. You might be asking, why was the bike only produced for one year? Two reasons: First, in ’84, Yamaha released the FJ1100, which was much better suited for the needs of the American market – faster and sportier. Second, European riders felt the handlebar-mounted fairing created instability at high speeds, so the next year Yamaha moved the fairing mount to the frame and then bumped up displacement, to boot. Then they decided to only continue offering it in Europe.
Despite sporty looks, the bike had a 5.8 gallon fuel tank, enough to cruise over 200 miles before needing to stop at a gas station. Yamaha claimed an adequate 97 horsepower out of the 900cc motor. The bike featured shaft drive and a relaxed riding position that garnered a lot of fans for this one year only oddity.
