Produced from 1984 to 2003, the GPz900R was the first bike to bear the “Ninja” name.
A revolutionary design when it came out, some would argue that it was the predecessor of what we consider today to be a modern sport bike. It was the first 16 valve liquid cooled inline four, something the competition would take years to catch up on.
The engine produced 115 horsepower, good for a top speed of 151 miles per hour – it was the first production road bike to top 150. Nowadays these numbers might seem tame, but this bike was an instant legend when it was released. The cameo in Top Gun didn’t hurt, either.
This example is VIN: ZX900A014324, Engine #: ZX900AE017281.
The odometer shows 34,345 kilometers (21,341 miles).
This bike came to us from a collection in South Africa and the history is not known. In preparation for the listing, we cleaned/synced the carbs, changed the oil/filter, rebuilt the front caliper, and installed a new fuel tap and fuel gauge. Steve the Professor did the work and recommends that this bike gets new tires if the next owner wants to ride it.
Modifications:
This GPz appears to be completely stock with the exception of an Iron Butt Association license plate backing and Metzeler stickers.
