Produced from 1984 to 2003, the GPz900R was the first bike to bear the “Ninja” name – but not in every country!
A revolutionary design when it came out, some would argue that it was the predecessor of what we consider today to be a modern sport bike. It was the first 16 valve liquid cooled inline four, something the competition would take years to catch up on.
The engine produced 115 horsepower, good for a top speed of 151 miles per hour – it was the first production road bike to top 150. Nowadays these numbers might seem tame, but this bike was an instant legend when it was released.
The cameo in Top Gun didn’t hurt, either.
This example is VIN: ZX900A014324, Engine #: ZX900AE017281.
The odometer shows 34,347 kilometers (21,342 miles).
Maintenance:
This bike came to us from a collection in South Africa and the history is not known. The seller acquired it here on Iconic Motorbikes in March 2022.. He had us service and customize it: we cleaned the carbs, replaced the right side turn signals, installed a rear fender eliminator, rebuilt the front and rear calipers, replaced the rear brake pads, installed a new fuel tap and fuel gauge, changed the engine oil/filter, installed a new starter clutch, and installed a Kerker exhaust that the owner supplied. In addition, we installed new tires (Metzler Lasertec front, Bridgestone Battlax BT-46 rear).
Alex, Angel, and Steve did the work, and this is their condition report:
