Known as the KZ700 here in the US and the Z700 everywhere else, this middleweight perfectly fit under the KZ900 in Kawasaki’s lineup. It was introduced in 1984 and produced for just one year only. At the time, the US had introduced a tariff on bikes with a displacement over 700cc in order to help Harley-Davidson compete against the growing import market.
With its triple disc brakes, under-seat storage, and dash-mounted gas gauge, the Z bike offered a number of advantages over similarly-sized alternatives like Honda’s venerable CB750. Moreover, it produced a respectable 76hp and 46.3ft-lbs of torque — plenty of giddyup to get the 476-lb (dry) platform to 60mph in 4.3s and to a top speed of 129mph.
This example is VIN: JKAK76A17EA000551. It came to us as part of a payment for an outstanding shop bill two years ago, however the client has disappeared and we need the space for incoming bikes.
The odometer shows 13,068 miles.
