Additional photos of this Yamaha RZ250 Project are available here for your perusal.

Introduced in 1983 for the JDM market as a successor to the RZ250, the RZ250R was Yamaha’s first production bike to feature their variable exhaust valve device known as YPVS (Yamaha Power Valve System).

That technology, combined with CDI and electronic spark advance helped the 247cc liquid-cooled motor produced 45 horsepower to motivate a bike that weighed 319 pounds.

The double cradle frame was suspended by forks with variable damping and a new linked-type Monocross shock design. The faired model was available in Silky White/French Blue or White/Chappy Red, the latter of which featured Yamaha’s trademark speedblock livery and a fairing design which aped its bigger brother RZ500.

This example is VIN: 29L043578.

The odometer shows 18,677 kilometers (11,605 miles).

The owner imported this bike from Japan several years ago with the intent of reselling it in the US. He had it running and for sale at the 2019 Barber Vintage Festival. It did not sell there, and due to COVID the bike has been in storage since. At a minimum, it will need a new battery and the carbs cleaned to run. To ride, it would likely also need a full fluid flush and new tires. We have not inspected it.

Modifications:
This RZ appears to be stock.

It is riding on Dunlop tires which have aged out.
