Description
In 1977, Suzuki introduced the RG50, a small two-stroke standard. The moped was sold world wide and, depending on the market, was also known as the GT50, ZR50, and X-1. In the following years it went through small, incremental improvements such as getting star cast wheels, a power reed valve, larger front wheel, and anti-dive fork. Power and top speed varied depending on the regulations in the country of sale.
In 1982, the model evolved into the RG50 Gamma, a baby sportbike and the smallest of the Gamma lineup. Suzuki upgraded the bike with a 6-speed transmission, better suspension, racing exhaust, small fairing, and the engine became water cooled.
The 49cc 2-stroke single pushed a hair over 7 horsepower and the whole package of the early models weighed 152 pounds dry. The Gamma ran until 1995 with subtle modifications such as a belly panned version as well as a Walter Wolf livery.
Being light weight and simple to modify, the RG50, and specifically the Gamma, were popular amongst tuners and bucket racers.
