Only sold in the states from 84-85, the RZ350 was the first bike in the US to come equipped with catalytic converters and the first Yamaha street bike in the US to use a perimeter frame. It was also one of the last street-legal two-strokes available in this country.
Estimated production of these bikes was around 20,000 – accidents and time have worn down that number significantly. You’ll note the YPVS acronym on the engine: that stands for Yamaha Power Valve System, a computer-controlled valve that could adjust exhaust port timing. This enabled increased torque at low RPMs while maintaining horsepower higher up in the rev band.
There is no VIN visible on the headstock. It is unclear to us if the VIN was ground off or if it’s been powdercoated over. It came to Iconic as an import from South Africa; prior history is not known.
The engine number is 31K026065.
The odometer shows 47,697 kilometers (29,637 miles).
Maintenance:
In preparation for the listing, the seller had us replace the battery, clean and sync the carbs, rebuild the forks, replace the turn signal relay, and service the front brake calipers with new seals, pistons, boots, and brake pads. We also flushed the coolant, replaced the water temperature sensor, replaced the transmission oil and fuel filter, and installed new Shinko Podium R006 RR tires with date codes of 3421 and 4021.
