Additional photos of this Suzuki GSX-R750 race bike are available here for your perusal.

Suzuki pulled the cover off the first-year GSX-R750 at the 1984 Cologne Motor Show, before its official launch in March of 1985. Upon its release, the Gixxer was unquestionably king, setting a new benchmark in the industry.

Suzuki revamped just about everything for the 1988 debut of the second generation. The aerodynamics were improved (11% less drag), the wheelbase was shortest in class (140cm), and the alloy frame was stronger (60% more rigidity). There were several other upgrades (such as a new short-stroke 748cc engine), but one specific change would end up becoming a nickname for the entire generation – the “slingshot” Mikuni BST36SS carbs.

Basic specifications were 112 horsepower, 55 lb-ft of torque, and a dry weight of 430 pounds. New for ’88 were 17″ wheels, while braking duties were handled by 320mm dual hydraulic discs up front and a 220mm hydraulic disc in the rear.

This example is VIN: GR77C101063. It came to Iconic as an import from South Africa – we are not sure if it is a 1988 or 1989 model.

There is no odometer, true mileage is unknown.

Maintenance:
In preparation for the listing, we had the shop verify that the bike would run. Along with jetting the carburetors, we also changed the battery and flushed the fluids.

Steve did the work, he notes the following in his condition report:
Tire % Front/ Rear:80/80
Hydraulic: New
Oil: New
Coolant: New
Low Beam: N/A
High Beam: N/A
Turn: N/A
Tail Light: N/A
Brake Light: N/A
Plate Light: N/A
Kill: Ok
Horn: N/A
Battery: Ok

Please note: While this GSX-R will run, it does not have an airbox or air filters. Additionally, the carbs are not correct, there is no push cable on the throttle (there is also lots of throttle play), the rear brake reservoir has a stripped screw, and the front brake lever is broken.

The sale includes a rear wheel stand.

Currently located at our facility in Santa Monica, California (please make an appointment for an inspection), this Suzuki is offered on a clean Oregon title. Please note that the title shows this bike as a 1996 model due to a mistake at the titling agency. Have any GSX-R750 stories or questions about this listing? Let us know in the “Comments” tab!
