Description

“Ultimate Dual.” That’s how Yamaha marketed the TDR250 – a unique descriptor for a unique bike.

The TDR combined a retuned TZR250 two-stroke motor good for nearly 50 horsepower in a dual-sport frame, making it unlike anything available in the US at the time (especially because Yamaha never officially sold it here).

As a bit of perspective on how ahead of its time this machine was, consider that this 30+ year-old bike makes 10 horsepower more than the recently-refreshed Kawasaki KLR, yet it weighs 120 pounds less! If that wasn’t good enough, check out this article on ADV Pulse for what else made the TDR special, including Yamaha’s assertion that the TDR’s engine was the first two-stroke motor to utilize both a CDI and an electronic advance system. Or check out this promotional video:

This example is VIN: 2YK069152. It came to Iconic as an import from Japan; prior history is not known.

The odometer shows 32,838 kilometers (20,404 miles). Please note: we had to swap the speedometer, as it was not reading correctly. The previous odometer shows 4,859 kilometers (3,019 miles) but true mileage is unknown.

Maintenance:
In preparation for the listing, the seller had us replace the battery, the air filter, the radiator cap, the petcock o-ring, and the speedometer. We also serviced the front caliper, flushed the brake fluid, serviced the chain, cleaned and synced the carbs, and installed new Pirelli Sport Demon tires with date codes of 3622 and 4822.

Olly did the work, he notes the following in his condition report:

Fuel tank Internal: Ok
Tire Years – Front/ Rear: 2022
Tire Life – Front/ Rear: 100%, New Set
Tire Pressure – Front: 28PSI; 32PSI
Brake Life – Front: 70%; Rear: 90%

Parking Light: Ok

Tail Light: Ok
Brake Light: Ok
Plate Light: Ok
Killswitch: Ok

Battery: 12.6V New

Upon the bike’s arrival, some of the bodywork was in need of repair. Accordingly, we sent out the righthand fairing and tail sections to be polished. Moreover, we had the lefthand fairing upper, front fender, side fairing, and tail section repaired and refinished by Brian of BKM Creations.

Modifications:
Braided stainless steel brake lines (front).

Inside of the tank:

The sale includes two keys.

Cosmetic Blemishes: please see the album up top for all known cosmetic blemishes. Here is a selection:
