Honda was ahead of its time when it debuted the Hawk GT, also known as the NT650. It was one of the world’s first modern naked bikes but it was a commercial failure. Over the years, many riders have realized what the Hawk offered, and it’s become a cult classic.
Honda advertised the Hawk as “a thoughtful blend of European styling, American V-Twin muscle, and a Honda trademark – technological sophistication.” That makes sense nowadays in a world full of SV650s and Ducati Monsters, but when this bike was released American riders wanted power and they wanted fairings – a 600 Hurricane had 30 more horsepower and all the plastic bodywork one could want for just $400 more than the Hawk’s $3,598 MSRP.
For more on the Hawk, check out this article on Canyon Chasers where they call it one of their favorite motorcycles of all time. “Sometimes the sum is greater than the whole and that has never been truer than with the Hawk.”
Manufactured in November of 1988, this example is VIN: JH2RC3114KM100547, Engine #: RC31E-2103778. The seller acquired it from a private party in Thousand Oaks three and a half years ago. The seller is also a long-time friend of Iconic that we would have wrenching for us if his career in street rods wasn’t so lucrative – he takes very good care of his vehicles.
The odometer shows 13,874 miles.
Maintenance:
When the seller acquired the bike, there was a flat spot so he removed the existing pod filters and replaced them with the stock air box. He also changed the wheel dampers (a common issue with Hawks). He recently performed a valve adjustment and oil change, it has less than 200 miles since that work was done.
Modifications:
Two Brothers exhaust.
Penske shock.
Rear braided brake line.
Driven grips.
Not pictured is a set of Race Tech Gold Valve cartridge fork emulators.
Cosmetic Blemishes: please see the album up top for all known cosmetic blemishes. Here is a selection:
Inside of the tank:
It is riding on Pirelli Diablo Rosso II tires with date codes of 2315 and 0916.
The sale includes one key.
Currently located at our facility in Santa Monica, California (please make an appointment for an inspection), this Honda is offered on a clean California title with registration current through May of 2023.
