The Honda CB-1 was a wonderful mid-sized standard in a time of replica racers. Originally built for the Japanese market, it was a beautifully balanced motorcycle that lost out in an American market that was obsessed with having as much horsepower as possible.
Cycle World called this “a great motorcycle that never found an audience”, and with hindsight, it’s easy to see why. A healthy 55 horsepower was enough to take this 400 pound bike up to 118 miles per hour, and the upright seating position lent itself to comfortable commuting or canyon carving. General consensus at the time was that this bike the perfect “street weapon for the masses”.
Manufactured in September of 1989, this example is VIN: JH2NC2712LM100046. The seller acquired it over a year ago as a project, he recently had to offload multiple FZR400 projects and is now working on RVF400 and CBR400 projects instead.
The odometer shows 65,618 miles.
Per the seller, “the engine turned over and started on 6/22/2022 at MotoTechnica in East LA before being dropped off at Iconic. It needs a carb rebuild (leaky connectors) and maybe an OEM fuel pump as per MT.”
The sale includes several pieces of OEM bodywork and the seat.
