Description
Click here for an VINData Motorcycle History Report on this 1993 Ducati 900 SL Superlight. Please Note: the VINData report incorrectly states that this is a 2023 model and the title incorrectly states that the bike is a 1992 model.
Upon its debut in 1991, the 900SS proved a resounding success due to the exotic Italian styling and punchy performance. Per usual, Ducati felt the best means to market the bike was to produce a limited edition numbered variant. Accordingly, the Bologna-based firm released the 900 Superlight (SL) just a year later.
Originally, Ducati only planned to released 500 examples; over time, that number grew to around 900, with 300 yellow variants making their way stateside.
Though it featured the same engine, frame, and suspension as the standard 900SS, the Superlight boasted a variety of choice extras. Moreover, throughout the model’s production life, Ducati released several iterations — beginning with the Superlight I and culminating with the Superlight IV in 1995. The Superlight I (like the one being offered here) featured a set of 17-inch Marvic wheels, carbon fiber fenders, and a sporty solo seat. Together, these upgrades shaved nearly 25lbs off off the dry weight, making it one of the lightest bikes in its class.
This example is VIN: ZDM1LC4N5PB006494.
It is #706 of the production run.
Maintenance:
In preparation for the listing, the seller had us perform a safety inspection, the original tank had rusted out and was not salvageable. We sourced a red Superlight tank and had it painted and placed Ducati decals to match. We also replaced the rear shock, battery, belts, engine oil and filter, hydro flush and did a heavy detail on the bike. We replaced the fuel petcock, fuel filter, fuel pump, gaskets, fuel level gauge, and the air filter.
