Please Note: VINData incorrectly lists this as a 2023. Iconic has spoken with VINData and the problem lies within the NHTSA database and the redundancy of the 10th digit indicating year every 30 years, this is indeed a 1993.
Upon its debut in 1991, the 900SS proved a resounding success due to the exotic Italian styling and punchy performance. As is typical of Ducati, however, the best means to market the bike was to produce a limited edition numbered variant. Accordingly, the Bologna-based firm released the 900 Superlight (SL) just a year later.

Originally, Ducati only planned to release 500 examples but over time that number grew to around 900, with 300 yellow variants making their way stateside.

Though it featured the same engine, frame, and suspension as the standard 900SS, the Superlight boasted a variety of choice extras. Moreover, throughout the model’s production life, Ducati released several iterations — beginning with the Superlight I and culminating with the Superlight IV in 1995. The Superlight I (like the one being offered here) featured a set of 17-inch Marvic wheels, carbon fiber fenders, and a sporty solo seat. Together, these upgrades shaved nearly 25lbs off off the dry weight, making it one of the lightest bikes in its class.

This example is VIN: ZDM1LC4M9PB006697.

The odometer shows 20,934 miles.

Maintenance:
The seller acquired this bike in 2022 in rougher condition than expected and decided to turn it into a restoration project that he documented in this forum thread on Ducati.ms. Highlights of the frame-off restoration include an engine rebuild (less than 1,000 miles ago), NOS fork tubes, redone frame by Jason LeCavalier of Artistimo Customs, carb rebuild, new steering head bearings, redone Marvic wheels, rebuilt brake calipers, Ohlins shock, replaced ignition/fuel cap/helmet lock set, and some reproduction decals.
