Description

Click here for an VINData Motorcycle History Report on this 1994 BMW R1100RS.

One of the most popular American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association (AHRMA) race series with fans was the Battle of the Legends, a partnership with BMW that had motorcycling legends face off against each other on identically-prepped BMW bikes. It ran from 1993-1997, and in 1994 the series utilized the R1100RS sport-tourer in a pearl white. The next year would also use the RS, but in purple.

The RS was introduced in 1993 and it was the first BMW to utilize the Oilhead boxer motor (also called the R259). The BotL bikes were very similar to the production bikes – differences were limited to the paint and exhaust. Motorcycle.com said this of the R1100RS “The BMW line of boxer motors — two-cylinder engines where the pistons swing back and forth like a boxer’s fists — goes back more than 70 years now, an unbreakable BMW tradition. It wasn’t meant to be that way: The Bavarian Motor Works would have been happy for the boxers to just fade away, like old boxers do, in a series of inarticulate grunts leaving the memories of fights fought and punches taken. Then the BMW motorcycle line could all be based on the three- and four-cylinder K-bikes, which use so much automotive technology as to be functionally identical with BMW’s bigger car engines.”

“But the boxers wouldn’t die without a fight. Though the old air-cooled two-valve motors are gone now, the R series continues, one cylinder sticking out each side, albeit with vastly improved power and a veritable tour de force of technology. With more than a nod to the automotive side of BMW’s business, the Bavarian firm equipped the new boxer family with the most advanced running gear in the business: Second generation ABS brakes, catalytic converter and fuel injection means that BMW’s engines are in the forefront of new motorcycle technology.” This model is equipped with brembo brakes front and rear, ABS, and the optional factory grip warmers.

“Improved power and better environmental protection are products of this new technology, and the RS is the hot rod of the twin-cylinder range with a claimed 90hp available. Riders with a big enough credit rating to buy one of these $14,000 (with ABS) motorcycles are also hoping that BMW’s legendary reliability and durability are also along for the ride. The RS shares the same “frameless” construction as the R1100R (previously reviewed in Motorcycle Online), with an engine tuned for more top-end power than the naked bike, at the expense of a little midrange. The 1085cc engine is used as the frame, and the front and rear suspension attach to it via a front Telelever wishbone and rear single-sided Paralever swinging arm.”

This example is VIN: WB1041600R0310466. The seller states “This is my second motorcycle as I started riding later in life. I bought it from my mechanic Alex at Motorcycle Performance. The bike has always been excellent to me and I am very sorry to give it up, I’m just looking for something smaller and lighter. As I get older I just want to scoot around town on something easier to ride with more modern electronics and lighter weight etc.”

The odometer shows 101,865 miles. The seller has covered approximately 21,000 miles during his 12 years of ownership. He states “I have two bikes and unfortunately only enough time to ride one, so the newer bikes gets all the love. This one runs and rides great I just don’t have the time to take her out as often as she deserves.”

Maintenance:
The seller states “I have all the maintenance records for my time of ownership. Recent service includes, fuel line clamp tightened 2024, and rear tire replaced, new battery, and oil change in 2023. In 2015 I replaced the transmission and the new trans has only 5k miles on it. The bike will need a fresh oil change and could probably use a hydro flush as well.”

Modifications:
Front PIAA auxiliary lights.

Seats re-upholstered through Motorcycle Performance.

Battery tender port.

Inside of the tank:

It is riding on Michelin Road 5 tires with date codes of 4518 and 3722.

The sale includes one ignition key, one seat key and one luggage key, OEM touring side cases, 46L top case with passenger backrest and all maintenance documents.
