No Reserve – 1995 Ducati 900SS/SP Track Bike

Description

In this piece on Cycle World, Peter Egan says that this 900SS is “the used motorcycle you need” and notes that “they made perfectly comfortable long-­distance touring bikes, but on ­winding roads through the Black Hills, they metamorphosed back into sportbikes of deep finesse, with killer, real-world midrange and light, intuitive handling.”

Mikuni carbs fed the air-cooled 904cc air/oil cooled V-Twin which was good for just under 80 horsepower. Combined with a dry weight of 414 pounds and classic Ducati styling, the 900SS was quite the commercial success – almost 28k of them were sold over a seven year run.

Befitting the Bologna-based motorcycle company, the 900SS was offered in a limited ‘Sport Production’ trim. Beyond the scarcity of the motorcycle, the SP model was offered with a larger rear wheel (1-inch to be exact), three way adjustable suspension, carbon fiber accents throughout, and floating brake rotors.

This example is VIN: ZDM1LC4N8SB018325. The seller purchased the bike February 2025 and states, “I bought the bike from an Italian restraunt in Clawson, MI. It had sat on a bar top indoors for 8 years. I’ve been going to the Italian restaurant for years with my wife and we always said we’d buy the bike if the place closed. Sadly it shut its doors in Feb. 2025 and I felt the need to bring the bike back to life. I’ve spent the past few months getting it back to good running order.”

True mileage unknown. Regarding the 900SS/SP bikes having a numbered plaque on the triple tree, the seller notes, “Because it has a unique fuel primer button and top triple I think this was changed after the fact. The reason I think it’s an SP was because of the aluminum swing frame, wider rear wheel that’s spec on the frame and the adjustable Showa forks which are all standard on the SP.”

Maintenance:
The seller notes replacing the cam drive belts in April 2025. He notes:
“-Brake and clutch fluid replaced – Rbf600
-New Shorai battery
-Carbs have been cleaned and rebuilt
-Timing belts have been replaced
-Oil changed with Motul 10w40
-Spark plugs replaced -Ngk
-Fresh chain
-2025 Moto A spec Dunlop slicks from Daytona 200 qualifying (15 laps by Michigan’s Carl Soltisz)”

The seller has provided the following list of mods:

-Billet track rearsets set to GP shift
-Marchesini 5-spoke wheels
-Staintune high mount exhaust
-CNC Racing clutch slave
-Billet open clutch cover/ new springs
-Corbin seat
-Keyless ignition w/ fuel pump primer

It is riding on Dunlop slicks with date codes of 2224 and 2224.
