Description

Additional photos of this Yamaha Lanza are available here for your perusal.

Introduced in 1997, the Lanza DT230 was built for the Japanese market where (as Yamaha themselves put it), “users generally avoid models with a large chassis and high seat height.”

This lightweight (251 pounds) dual-sport featured a 2-stroke 224cc single-cylinder engine which produced a claimed 40 horsepower.

Despite the diminutive displacement, Yamaha packed this bike with some impressive technological innovations for the time – including their first ever use of traction control! At that time, the system controlled ignition timing based on the rate of acceleration vs. change in engine rpm to determine if the rear wheel was slipping.

This example is VIN: 4TP002655.

The odometer shows 17,652 kilometers (10,968 miles).

The owner imported this bike from Japan several years ago with the intent of reselling it in the US. He had it running and for sale at the 2019 Barber Vintage Festival. It did not sell there, and due to COVID the bike has been in storage since. At a minimum, it will need a new battery and the carbs cleaned to run. To ride, it would likely also need a full fluid flush and new tires. We have not inspected it.

Modifications:
MiyabeePlus bar pad.

Amber turn signal bulbs with clear lenses in the front.

Cosmetic Blemishes: please see the album up top for all known cosmetic blemishes. Here is a selection:

Inside of the tank:

It is riding on Dunlop D603 tires that have aged out.

The sale includes one key.

Currently located at our facility in Santa Monica, California (please make an appointment for an inspection), this Yamaha is offered on a Bill of Sale with a Japanese title (translated) and Certificate of Export.
