Released in 1997, the second generation of the Triumph Speed Triple (T509) introduced the twin “bug eye” headlamps that have become a Speed Triple trademark, championed by designers John Mockett and Rod Scivyer.

The changes were much more than cosmetic – the 885cc triple engine now produced 108 horsepower/63 ft-lbs and was stuffed inside of a new aluminum chassis with a single sided swingarm and upgraded fully adjustable Showa suspension.

Triumph-branded Nissin brakes handled stopping duties front and rear.

Manufactured in September of 1997, this Speed Triple is VIN: SMT500EE1WJ057113.

The odometer shows 2,690 miles.

The current owner acquired it from the Mecum Las Vegas auction in 2019. Though it was sold as a runner, the bike was not running upon delivery so he asked us to diagnose the issue and we replaced the fuel pump, battery, spark plugs, and one of the injectors.

The bike was also sold with damage to the tail so we replaced the tail section and installed new decals.

Modifications:
Aftermarket grips and bar end mirrors.

Rizoma clip-on handlebars.

Aftermarket front sprocket cover.

Aftermarket chain guard.

The tank has been lined:

Cosmetic Blemishes:

It is riding on new Dunlop Sportmax Q3+ tires from 2017.

The sale includes two keys.
