For 2002, Honda fought back against Suzuki’s new-for-2001 GSX-R1000 with a dramatic update to their CBR929RR superbike. The CBR954RR most obviously featured a displacement bump, however it also impressively lost six pounds. That made it the class lightweight at 429 pounds ready to ride, which paired quite well with the 130 horsepower and 67 lb-ft of torque output of the new motor. Magazine reviewers also thought the RR was easier to live with than the GSX-R, thanks to more upright ergonomics, excellent fueling, and better-than-expected wind protection due to a tall windshield.

In his review for Sport Rider, Kent Kunitsugu said, “Make no mistake, the new 954RR rocks. Baba-san’s newest creation is nearly as flickable as the F4i, and the motor’s added midrange punch lets the new Honda squirt through the tighter stuff like no other open-classer; a pilot on any of the competition’s bikes will be working a little harder to keep the same pace. The slightly revamped brakes are some of the best I’ve ever experienced on a production motorcycle–excellent feel and power, with good progressiveness and modulation.”

Manufactured in September of 2002, this example is VIN: JH2SC50043M104251. The seller acquired it 1.5 years ago from a private party in Massachusetts.

LighTech bar ends, aftermarket levers.

Cosmetic Blemishes:
The seller notes a “few blemishes on the stickers of the fairings.”

Inside of the tank:

It is riding on Dunlop Sportmax GPR300 tires that have aged out.
