Our buddy Kevin Erion has opened up his private stash of leathers, and we’ll be selling a few suits from some of your favorite Erion Honda AMA riders! Here’s a suit with an interesting history from what should have been Anthony Gobert’s 2004 season.
The oldest of the Gobert brothers (in addition to Alex and Aaron), Anthony was a successful motorcycle racer who competed in MotoGP, WSBK, British Superbike, and AMA Superbike. In 1994 at the age of 19, he became the youngest ever WSBK race winner from pole, a record he still holds today. He was affectionately known as “The Go Show.”
One of the big headlines leading into the 2004 AMA Superstock series was the signing of Anthony Gobert by Erion Racing. Per this press release on Roadracing World, Kevin Erion (President of Erion Racing) said, “We are excited to showcase Honda’s CBR1000RR in the AMA’s Superstock class in 2004, and we are equally excited to have a rider of Anthony’s caliber competing in this class on the Erion team.”
Anthony was signed on to ride alongside his younger brother Alex. He said, “I am 28 and I’ve never been a quitter. Kevin Erion is giving me a chance to prove myself and I am ready to race.” Unfortunately, two months later Anthony got a DUI and was released by Erion Racing. “There is a level of commitment and dedication that is required to be a rider on our team. Unfortunately, Anthony was unwilling to demonstrate the level of commitment and dedication required to get the job done. We wish Anthony well. He has displayed great talent over the years.” As such, this suit appears to have never been worn.
