Please Note: The VINData Report for this bike states that it was towed or impounded in May of 2009, there are no export/theft/open lien events related to that.
One of the stars of The Matrix Reloaded was a Ducati 996 – it featured in a fantastic chase scene which was popular enough to inspire Ducati to release a limited run of their own. The directors reportedly spent $2.5M on building a faux freeway to film the scene.
By the time the second installment of the Matrix trilogy was released, the Italian marque had replaced the 996 with the 998 in dealerships. Changes included a dark green livery like that of the movie bike and Matrix Reloaded decals on the tail.

Different sources cite different production figures – Ducati forums often state 120 or 150, while MCN says 93 were built. We may never know the exact number, but it’s definitely a low one.

This example is VIN: ZDM1SB5V84B022678, Engine #: SB54010978. Per the Ducati recall website, this corresponds to a 998 Matrix. The seller acquired it from a private party in Orange County, California in October 2024.

During his ownership, the seller has covered roughly 500 miles. The odometer shows 7,660 miles.

“I love the look of the bike, and it’s iconic from The Matrix movies. Beautiful green color. But I just don’t enjoy riding it. Maybe I’m not a Ducati guy, I love Hondas because they’re so smooth. Now the bike sits in my garage, and I’m moving out of state soon, so need to pass it on.”

Maintenance:
“I had extensive service totaling $4,390 at Pro Italia in October-December 2024. Included oil/filter change, chain service/new chain, F/R brakes and clutch fluid flush, new OEM clutch components installed, new battery, installed back on OEM parts including: exhaust, ecu, levers, brake light, radiator guard and other guards, kickstand cover, fuel cap, reservoir covers, and other small items. And they also installed new Michelin Power GP2 tires. The idea was to bring the bike back to stock as much as possible. Previously it had a lot of carbon fiber pieces and trim, carbon fiber Termignoni exhaust, aftermarket ecu, etc. I kept all those removed items and they are included in the sale. Many of them OEM items that we put back on were included from the previous owner, and some we bought new through Pro Italia.”
