After the Monster S4R debuted in 2004, Ducati immediately added to the lineup just a year later with the S2R. The bike borrowed many cues from its older brother like the striking trellis frame, single-sided swingarm, and double-stacked, right-side-only exhaust – but changed things up when it came to the engine by instead fearing a classic air-cooled two-valve.
Come 2006, Ducati expanded the Monster family once again with the S2R 1000. As you’d expect, the extra displacement made a marked difference in the ride. Visordown put it best when they said that “throughout the whole rev range the motor remains smooth, while still allowing enough of the Ducati V-twin vibes through to the bars and footpegs to ensure it doesn’t feel sanitised or soulless. Like most V-twins the mid-range is excellent, with the S2R happily pulling low in the range too, but the Monster is also helped by its low gearing. It has three teeth more on the rear sprocket than the faired SS1000DS, which shares the same motor. This gives better acceleration, which is a sensible change on a naked bike that simply doesn’t need an excess of top speed.”
Rounding out the package was a typically top-spec suite of components, including an inverted 43mm Marzocchi fork, a Sachs rear shock with adjustable preload and rebound damping, and dual 300mm floating discs gripped by Brembo four-piston calipers.
This example is VIN: ZDM1RABP36B084519. The seller acquired it thirteen years ago from a private party and states, ““Contessa” – Bought brand new from previous owner and meticulously cared for from very experienced rider/collector, I was raised and ridden Ducati’s from family collection. I bought and babied the bike. She is a beast and very well cared for and respected. Always Garage kept and maintained. Never used as a daily rider or ridden on long travels, all local rides Malibu, Palos Verdes Canyon rides.”
During his ownership, the seller covered approximately 6,000 miles. The odometer shows 15,948 miles.
