Click here for an VINData Motorcycle History Report on this 2006 Ducati S2R.
After debuting the S4R in 2004, Ducati immediately added to the lineup just a year later with the S2R. With the goal in mind of having a new ‘SR’ line available to consumers, the S2R took many cues from its older brother and created a bike based on practicality and the enjoyment that riders felt when riding these beasts. The key differences in these bikes was the engine – the S2R came with a tamed down but more refined and classical 800cc air-cooled two valve engine as opposed to the more temperamental 4V water-cooled engine.
Beyond that, the S2R still boasted a striking single-sided swingarm — a feature synonymous with Ducati, — as well as double-stacked right-side-only exhaust and some iconic Ducati colorways.
One of the biggest changes to the model came in the form of the ground clearance; Ducati increased the ground clearance for better cornering, requiring some significant modifications to the frame to accommodate for the routing of the intake ducts. By and large, however, the S2R made itself right at home in the Monster line, offering the premium components that one had come to expect of the Italian company. Some of those features included upside-down 43mm-diameter forks with a Marzocchi unit, a rear Sachs shock absorber with adjustable preload and rebound damping, and two 300mm floating front brake.
As MotorcycleNews put it: “The surprise isn’t what the S2R is – the 800 engine and S4R chassis/style are proven. The surprise is how well it all blends together and how affordable it is.”
