Kawasaki introduced the Ninja ZX-10R in 2004 and it was instantly successful – it immediately won Masterbike as well as Cycle World’s Best Superbike award. As Bennett’s summed it up, “Wild, often unpredictable and packing a serious punch, the Ninja was a trademark Kawasaki sportsbike that split opinions. Some loved its outrageously aggressive character, others were downright scared of it!”
The model was updated again in 2006 with revised styling, a more predictable riding nature, and (as BikeSocial put it), a “much-needed Öhlins steering damper.”
This example is VIN: JKAZXCD186A008089. The seller is the original owner and purchased the bike new, December 2006, from Performance Cycle Center in Tucson, Arizona, and states, “Rode approximately 500 miles mostly Malibu canyons and Angeles Crest HWY…..then (as I also owned and raced a 2005 ZX-10R ) I decided to do a superbike build on it. Took a while between finding the right parts (the kit SBK radiator is RARE!) and the building. When bike was completed, I only did 2 track days.”
Maintenance:
Per the seller, “Major service done by James Morse (owner of TrackXperience) at TX Performance this summer: clean up and flow test fuel injectors, fuel pump and lines cleaned, oil change with filter, brake system flush, frozen rear master cylinder rebuild, cooling system flush, complete service front forks, complete shock service, new battery. Cost: $ 1,254.02 (have detailed invoice).”
Regarding the performance of the bike the seller continues, “Because of the build motor, bike should run on 50% unleaded, 50% race gas, for track days. If racing: 100% race gas. Bike has been mapped for these. Tank currently has pump fuel (unleaded) in it. Also motor has racing spark plugs: engine needs to be warm (takes more time because of the race radiator) and revved up…These plugs don’t like short runs (like 30 secs, 1 mn, or even 2 mns)”
In preparation for this listing, our service department performed an inspection of the bike. They note the following on their condition report:
Update 12/5: Iconic previously noted the bike was only running on 3 cylinders. After speaking with the seller and adding race gas, the bike runs on all 4. It seems the #1 cylinder does fire properly if using 100% unleaded.
