BMW originally debuted its HP — short for ‘High Performance’ — designation in 2005 with a series of HP2 models built around the venerable boxer twin. However, the Bavarian firm kicked things up a notch with the introduction of the HP4 in 2013.

Based on the already impressive S1000RR, it featured performance upgrades as far as the eye could see. Along with carbon fiber bodywork and forged wheels, it also boasted a lighter sprocket carrier, a titanium exhaust, and even a weight-saving battery. On the road, this meant that it was the lightest four-cylinder supersport in its class, tipping the scales at just 373 lbs dry.

And here’s the thing; the HP4 wasn’t wanting for power. On the contrary — the 999cc inline-four was good for some 193 horses and 83lb-ft of torque. When coupled to a six-speed gearbox and a specially-designed Akrapović exhaust, this translated to a 0-60mph time of 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 186mph.

The HP4 was also blessed with beautiful adjustable controls provided by Gilles Tooling.

As if that wasn’t enough, the bike introduced BMW’s DDC (Dynamic Damping Control), the first suspension system of its kind in a production bike. In practice, it automatically adapts damping to conditions with various riding modes, including Rain and Sport for the road, and Race and Slick for the track.

The brakes on the HP4 were noteworthy as well. Much like the DDC system, the ABS featured four different riding modes, and it was based around a set of Brembo monoblock calipers.

Manufactured in June 2014, this example is VIN: WB10D1104EZL19703. The seller is the originial owner, he bought it from BMW Motorcycles of Tulsa in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The odometer shows 1,537 miles.

It is production number 5505.

When COTA first opened I was riding an SV superbike. Needless to say, I was getting my doors blown off down the front and back straights. So, in order to keep up with my buddies I decided to buy my first 1000. I have absolutely loved it, but it sat on the sidelines after I purchased an HP4 Race.” Here is a photo of the bike at CotA shared by the painter of the bodywork:

Maintenance:
All performed by BMW of Austin, receipts included.

In preparation for the listing, the seller had us perform a safety inspection, install a new battery, flush the hydraulic fluid, clean/adjust/lube the chain, change the engine oil/filter, and swap out the track bodywork for stock bodywork. In the process of swapping over bodywork, our service department noted two things:

1. This has an aftermarket quickshifter installed which the original belly pan will not clear. We kept the track belly pan on so as to not modify any parts.

2. The two inner cowls (for the radiator) were not provided.
