PLACEHOLDER: COLD START/REV VIDEO
One of the few motorcycle companies from Mexico, Carabela was founded in 1964 as a motorcycle division of a company called Acermex. Acermex was very successful with bicycle production and initially expanded into motorcycles with a variety of 50cc and 100cc two-stroke motors from Minarelli tucked into frames made in-house. Their focus was reasonably priced machines for the Mexican market, though once they broke into the MX market with the 125cc Caliente in 1969, Carabela started to officially export some of their models to the US as well.

While Carabela’s lineup was dominated by off-roaders, they also had a couple of street bikes including the 150 SL. Information on these is very tough to find – if any of our knowledgeable followers have some details, we’d love to hear them in the comments section!

Manufactured in May of 1974, this example is VIN: 002879.

The odometer shows 18,028 kilometers (11,202 miles).
