Born in Gulfport, Mississippi, Josh is a legendary figure in American motorcycle racing. His journey to the top of the sport is a testament to perseverance and raw talent. Taking up racing at 19, the “Mississippi Madman” quickly saw success winning WERA races as he climbed through the ranks.
Turning pro in 1996, Hayes spent over a decade honing his skills in support classes winning the 1999 750 SuperSport race at Daytona, 2003 AMA 750 SuperStock Championship on an Attack Suzuki GSX-R750, and both the 2006 and 2007 AMA Formula Xtreme Championships saddling an Erion Racing Honda CBR600RR.
In 2009, Hayes received the call from Keith McCarty (the long-time Yamaha race team manager) that would define his career – an offer to ride for Yamaha’s factory Superbike team. What followed was a period of unprecedented success: Four AMA Superbike Championships in 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2014; a record-shattering 2012 season with 16 wins and 10 consecutive victories; 61 AMA Superbike race victories; and 88 total AMA road race victories which is an all-time record.
