Based on a 2000 Harley-Davidson Sportster XL1200, “El Zarape” was originally built by Roland Sands for his wife. For this reason, he prioritized a low seat height, a narrow profile, and a comfortable riding position.
You can find the promotional video from when the bike was built below:
Even though El Zarape may be a chopper, Roland Sands wanted the bike to be a real rider. From adjustable forks and improved brakes to lighter wheels and a freer-flowing exhaust system, it’s a far cry from your run-of-the-mill Sportster.
As is typical of Roland’s builds, the bike is packed full of high-end parts from the RSD catalogue. They include:
RSD calipers front and back, prototype Lyndall blacked-out Morris brake discs.
RSD narrow ProStep handlebar, adjustable forks with preload.
Fox Factory RSD Signature shocks.
RSD Blunt intake, Turbine air cleaner.
RSD Regulator adjustable levers, grips, and pegs.
RSD Smoothie upper fork covers.
RSD Tracker turn signals, rear strut mounts.
This example is VIN: 1HD1CGP3XYK121279.
The odometer shows 29.9 miles. However, true mileage is unknown.
Maintenance:
Roland states that they have recently cleaned the carb, replaced the stator, and installed a new battery. He adds that “All systems are go.”
It is riding on Dunlop Trailmax TR91 tires with date codes of 1211 and 1013.
