The Hasegawa Corporation (formerly known as Gunze Sangyo Inc.) is a model kit manufacturer out of Shizuoka Prefecture Japan. Starting in 1941 producing wooden teaching equipment, the company abandoned wood and switched to plastic when a line of WWII battleship and airplane models sold successfully in the early 1960s. Specializing in vehicles, the organization sells kits for cars, tanks, planes, ships, and motorcycles.
Introduced in 1956, the DBD34 variant of the Gold Star is probably the most famous BSA ever built – MCN called it one of the 60 greatest bikes from 1955-2015. The “34” signified a 500cc motor (compared to the 350cc motor of other “32” Goldies), and the DBD was the ultimate expression of the name.
It was only available with the big motor, and it was paired with a large (38mm) Amal GP carb and a special exhaust. This bike also got a chrome plated tank, clipons, and a 110 mph top speed. It was an instant success on the racetrack and on the sales floor. For more on the overall Gold Star line, check out Web Bike Word.
The packaging states the model year is circa 1956~1963 and the kits were produced in 1986 and 1987.
Currently located in Auburn, California, these models is offered on a Bill of Sale only. Have any DBD34 Gold Star stories or questions about this listing? Let us know in the “Comments” tab!
